Anuradhapura should not be missed on your travel route if you want to taste something of the rich history of Sri Lanka. Anuradhapura is probably not only the oldest city in Sri Lanka, but was also the most important city for centuries. Polonnaruwa is one of the ancient royal cities of Sri Lanka. In Polonnaruwa you can see many temples, ruins and other places of interest. Minneriya National Park is also known as ‘The Gathering’. In this park you will find the largest gathering of Asian elephants in the world. Sigiriya literally means “lion’s rock” and is of volcanic origin. Dambulla is best known for the Golden Temple. The rock temples of Dambulla have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991 and are the largest, best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. Kandy is located in a valley and in the middle of the center you will find a large lake with a small island in the middle. The city has a number of nice sights. Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, is an orphanage, nursery and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants.

Day 1: Chilaw – Anuradhapura
Itinerary this day:
Your journey begins with a convenient pickup from your hotel or airport. We’ll head to Chilaw to visit the Munneswaram Kovil Temple, a significant Hindu pilgrimage site steeped in history and spirituality.
Next, we’ll explore the unique salt fields of Puttalam, witnessing the age-old process of salt production.
Afterward, we’ll delve into the ancient city of Anuradhapura, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll marvel at the magnificent Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, a sacred fig tree believed to be a sapling of the original Bodhi tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. We’ll also explore other iconic sites like the Isurumuniya Temple, Jethawanaramaya Stupa, and the Moonstone.
Finally, we’ll visit Mihintale, a sacred Buddhist pilgrimage site, where Buddhism was first introduced to Sri Lanka.
After a day filled with cultural and historical wonders, we’ll return to your hotel.
Day 2: Polonnaruwa – Minneriya

Start your day with a delicious breakfast, followed by a journey to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. Immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of this once-powerful kingdom as we explore the magnificent ruins and temples. Marvel at the intricate carvings, towering stupas, and serene Buddha statues at the Vatadage, Gal Vihara, Audience Hall, and Rankot Vihara.
Afterward, we’ll embark on a thrilling wildlife safari at Minneriya National Park. Witness the awe-inspiring sight of hundreds of wild elephants roaming freely, a truly unforgettable experience.
Following the safari, we’ll return to the hotel to rest and reflect on the day’s adventures.
Day 3: Sigiriya – Kandy

Start your day with a delicious breakfast, followed by an exciting journey to Sigiriya. Embark on an adventure to climb the iconic Lion Rock, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. For an unforgettable experience, you can also choose to ride an elephant.
Next, we’ll head to Dambulla, a vibrant city known for its bustling vegetable market. We’ll also visit the awe-inspiring Dambulla Cave Temple, home to the stunning Golden Buddha statue.
Afterward, we’ll journey to Matale and visit the Sri Muthumariamman Temple, a colorful Hindu temple.
To conclude the day, we’ll immerse ourselves in the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka by attending a captivating Kandyan dance performance in Kandy.
We’ll then return to the hotel, ready to relax and reflect on the day’s adventures.
Day 4: Kandy – Pinnawala

Start your day with a delicious breakfast, followed by a fascinating exploration of Kandy city. Take in stunning views from the viewpoint, immerse yourself in the vibrant colors and textures of the batik and silk factory, witness the intricate artistry of wood carving, wander through the bustling market, and relax by the serene Kandy Lake. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth, a significant pilgrimage site.
Next, we’ll journey to the lush Peradeniya Royal Botanical Garden, a haven of tropical flora.
Afterward, we’ll head to Pinnawala to witness the heartwarming sight of elephants bathing in the river at the Elephant Orphanage.
Finally, we’ll return to your hotel or the airport, concluding a day filled with cultural and natural wonders.
