Northern and Eastern Sri Lanka: A 4-Day Exploration

Sri Lanka 4 days tour package to Jaffna, Trincomalee, Sigiriya and Dambulla.

We start the tour from the Colombo Fort Railway station and take the train from here to Jaffna. Jaffna is located in the far north of Sri Lanka. Jaffna has been densely populated for centuries and intensive horticulture is practiced. The port city of Trincomalee is located in the northeast of Sri Lanka. Trincomalee is located on a peninsula and this location makes it one of the largest natural harbors in the world. Sigiriya literally means “lion’s rock” and is of volcanic origin. In the 5th century a royal palace arose on top of the steep mountain and the remains can only be reached by a long staircase. Dambulla is best known for the Golden Temple. The rock temples of Dambulla have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991 and are the largest, best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. Dambulla consists of a series of 5 caves with beautiful Buddha images and frescoes.

Day 1: Colombo – Jaffna
Itinerary this day:

Your journey begins with a convenient pickup from your hotel or airport. We’ll take you to Colombo Fort Railway Station, where you’ll board a train to Jaffna at 11:50 AM.

Embark on a captivating train journey through the heart of Sri Lanka. The scenic route offers stunning views of lush paddy fields, quaint villages, and historic sites. You’ll witness the resilience of the people as you pass through areas that were affected by the past conflict.

The train will arrive in Jaffna at 6:15 PM, where you’ll be transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: Jaffna

Start your day with a delicious breakfast, followed by an exploration of the historic city of Jaffna. We’ll visit Kantharodai, a sacred Buddhist site, and then take a boat to Nallur Hindu Temple, a magnificent temple complex.

Next, we’ll delve into the rich history of Jaffna Fort, a well-preserved fortress with a fascinating past.

After a day of cultural immersion, we’ll return to the hotel to relax and reflect on our experiences.

Day 3: Jaffna – Trincomalee
Itinerary this day:

Start your day with a delicious breakfast, followed by a journey to the captivating city of Trincomalee. This natural harbor city has played a significant role in Sri Lanka’s history.

We’ll visit the Kanniya Hot Springs, where you can soak in the warm, mineral-rich waters. Afterward, we’ll ascend to the Koneswaram Temple, a stunning Hindu temple perched on a hilltop overlooking the bay.

We’ll also explore the historic Dutch Fort, a reminder of the city’s colonial past.

After a day of cultural and historical exploration, we’ll return to the hotel.

Day 4: Sigiriya – Dambulla

Start your day with a delicious breakfast, followed by an exciting journey to Sigiriya. Embark on an adventure to climb the iconic Lion Rock, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. For an unforgettable experience, you can also choose to ride an elephant.

Next, we’ll head to Dambulla, a vibrant city known for its bustling vegetable market. We’ll also visit the awe-inspiring Dambulla Cave Temple, home to the stunning Golden Buddha statue.

After a day of cultural and historical immersion, we’ll return to the airport or your hotel to relax and reflect on the day’s adventures.
