Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, is an orphanage, nursery and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants located at Pinnawala village. Sigiriya literally means “lion’s rock” and is of volcanic origin. In the 5th century a royal palace arose on top of the steep mountain and the remains can only be reached by a long staircase. In total you have to climb 1200 steps to get to the top of the 200 meter mountain. Dambulla is best known for the Golden Temple. The rock temples of Dambulla have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991 and are the largest, best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. Kandy is located in a valley and in the middle of the center you will find a large lake with a small island in the middle. The city has a number of nice sights.

Day 2: Dambulla – Kandy

After a delicious breakfast, we’ll embark on a journey to Dambulla, a vibrant city known for its bustling vegetable market. We’ll immerse ourselves in the colorful chaos of the market, witnessing a kaleidoscope of fresh produce. Afterward, we’ll ascend to the sacred Dambulla Cave Temple, where we’ll marvel at the awe-inspiring Golden Buddha statue and explore the intricate rock-cut chambers adorned with ancient paintings.

Next, we’ll travel to Matale, the spice capital of Sri Lanka. We’ll wander through the aromatic streets, witnessing the vibrant spice trade and visiting the Sri Muthumariamman Temple, a stunning Hindu shrine.

Our journey continues to the enchanting city of Kandy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll ascend to the Kandy viewpoint for panoramic vistas, delve into the artistry of the Batik and Silk factory, wander through the bustling Kandy market, admire the serene beauty of Kandy Lake, and visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth, housing one of Buddhism’s most revered relics.

We’ll also explore the lush Peradeniya Royal Botanical Garden, a verdant oasis teeming with exotic flora from around the world.
