Sigiriya literally means “lion’s rock” and is of volcanic origin. Minneriya National Park is also known as ‘The Gathering’. In this park you will find the largest gathering of Asian elephants in the world. Polonnaruwa is one of the ancient royal cities of Sri Lanka. In Polonnaruwa you can see many temples, ruins and other places of interest. Dambulla is best known for the Golden Temple. The rock temples of Dambulla have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991 and are the largest, best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. Kandy is located in a valley and in the middle of the center you will find a large lake with a small island in the middle. The city has a number of nice sights.

Day 2: Polonnaruwa – Kandy

After a nourishing breakfast, we’ll embark on a journey to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of Polonnaruwa as we explore its magnificent ruins and temples, including the Vatadage, Gal Vihara, Audience Hall, and Rankot Vihara, which house remarkable Buddha statues and stupas.

Leaving Polonnaruwa, we’ll continue to Dambulla, a vibrant city known for its bustling market and the renowned Dambulla Caves.

Explore the bustling market, renowned for its fresh produce and local delicacies, before venturing into the Dambulla Caves, a network of rock caves adorned with over 150 Buddha statues and intricate frescoes.

Our journey continues to Matale, a picturesque town steeped in tradition. Visit the Sri Muthumariamman Kovil, a prominent Hindu temple, and immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of this religious center.

Our final destination is Kandy, the cultural capital of Sri Lanka. Witness the grandeur of the Temple of the Tooth, a sacred relic site revered by Buddhists worldwide.

Day 3: Kandy – Giragama
Itinerary this day:

After a nourishing breakfast, we’ll embark on a cultural exploration of Kandy, immersing ourselves in the city’s vibrant arts and crafts scene.

Visit a batik and silk factory, witness the intricate process of creating these beautiful fabrics, and learn about their cultural significance.

Explore a wood carving factory, marveling at the craftsmanship of skilled artisans who transform wood into exquisite pieces of art.

Take a leisurely stroll around Kandy Lake, a serene oasis amidst the bustling city, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding hills.

Ascend to the Kandy Viewpoint, a vantage point that rewards you with panoramic vistas of the city, its temples, and the lush greenery that surrounds it.

Leaving Kandy, we’ll journey to Peradeniya, home to the renowned Royal Botanical Garden, a sprawling oasis of exotic plants and flowers.

Wander through the gardens’ diverse collection, marveling at the vibrant colors and exotic scents of the flora.

After a leisurely stroll through the botanical garden, we’ll head to the Giragama Tea Factory, where we’ll learn about the tea-making process and savor a cup of freshly brewed Ceylon tea.
